Hi All, First post here, however I've been using Archive.org since its inception. Just to let you all know, your website has been almost the single source of reference (combined with wikipedia)to help me not only learn, but actually graduate! You have no idea how the little things were crucial in helping me and my uni friends, The fact that many times the images didn't load actually HELPED us (to put this into perspective, I now type this on an internet connection that is 128kbps download/24.8kbps upload, that isn't a typo and I'm not missing a number, and this is 2013...you can imagine what I was running "back in the day")In short, its always been about the written (or in this case typed) word for us. What propelled me to sign up though and post was this: My hobbies when I'm not working are video games and tech, as of 2 days ago Ziff Davis/IGN have officially announced pulling the plug on their sites: Gamespy.com, 1up.com, and ugo.com. I'm already disgusted at how IGN previously handled Gamespy's archives/history - by quietly removing all traces of more than a decade's worth of articles, forum posts, features, discussions, podcasts and so on. I was floored to learn of the small batch of Archive.org heroes who tried to salvage whatever they could and their efforts are here: http://archive.org/details/Forumplanet.gamespy.comArchive I agree with the little blurb in that link - IGNs "heartless" deletion of the user created "planet sites" were just the beginning. So This is my plea to (hopefully) those same Archive warriors or even a new batch: could you band together to work on archiving whatever is left before it gets unceremoniously slaughtered and we see yet another avenue of gaming history vanishing forever. I attempted this myself with Httrack but my internet connection is nowhere near to collecting this volume of info anytime soon. The shut down announcement of each site: Gamespy.com: http://pc.gamespy.com/articles/122/1227460p1.html 1up.com: http://www.1up.com/news/true-1up-reached Ugo.com: http://www.ugo.com/wtf/swansong-for-ugo Article on IGN talking of this: http://corp.ign.com/press/2013/j2-global-more-than-doubles-size-of-its-digital-media-business-with-acquisition-of-ign-entertainment I hope someone can guide me on where this needs to go (if I'm in the wrong place that is) and regardless of whether you guys look into my plea or not: Thank you for all that you guys have done so far! -- Max
